"Majoritarianism is: two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner".
As an Austrian national, I began my graduate studies of Political Science at the University of Salzburg. I finished my Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 1992. For two years, I was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Miami, FL, and since 1993 I am faculty member at The University of Georgia.
My research focus is comparative politics, particularly comparative political economy and institutions, West European Politics, research methods, and social theory. More recently, I have explored the connections between generalized trust and the willingness of members of dominant societies in Europe to continue paying taxes even in the face of increasing immigration. My teaching of comparative politics includes the comparative politics of advanced industrial democracies, introduction to comparative politics and political development, advanced comparative methods, research design, constitutional engineering, immigration and the causes and consequences of social trust.
